This is a pretty short recap because I have to say that I was really disappointed in tonight's episode.  There were really few actual revelations...who didn't see Widmore being Faraday's father?  We already knew that Daniel tried to warn Charlotte, etc.  I was really thinking we were going to see more Dharmaville stuff hit the fan.  The whole scene with Desmond in the hospital and Ellie talking to Penny?  Was that really necessary?

My big question of the episode is probably going to be the big one of the season...do the actions of our Losties really change all of the events 'to come'?  I would hate to see the show end with 815 landing in LA like it was supposed to.

Faraday being shot by his mother...she seemed to know that that was going to happen, when she was talking to Charles in the hospital parking lot...I don't know, I can't even make what I am thinking make sense!  What was that all about?  I'd love to hear anyone's theories.

I was hoping we'd see a bit of the "shadow of the statue" people/Sun/Frank/Locke instead of repeats of things we've seen (Faraday crying about the plane wreckage, Faraday at the orchid, etc).  Well at least we got to see Richard Alpert again.  I really love that guy! lol

I love, love, love Sonic and they are *finally* springing up in our area!  I just found this deal at Bargain Briana:

First, if you are new to working deals at Acme, please read the background info on this post. This will explain how the coupons double & how to print two copies of the printable coupons.

There are some good buys this week, but there really aren't any stellar coupon matchups. Here is what I see:

Circular deals:

First, there is a great $0.25 sale with coupons on the front page of the circular. Most of these items are $0.25 each, but you have to buy four of the items (8 for the navel oranges) which is still a really good deal! The Acme frozen vegetables, corn muffin mix and salad dressing look like good ones to me :)

On the front page of the circular is also a buy one get two free coupon for 6oz. containers of imported blackberries.

Old El Paso Heat and Serve Rice is on sale for $1 each.  If you buy 3 Old El Paso items you will get a $1 off ground beef coupon at checkout & if you buy 6, you'll get a $3 off ground beef coupon.

The 4 for $19.99 deal is back: (see the last page of the circular) make 4 selections from 32 different meat items, such as 2 lb. packs of Italian sausage, 80% ground beef or boneless chicken breast and all four will total $19.99, regardless of individual package price.

Printable coupon deals:

There is a $5 off your next purchase Catalina promo running right now when you purchase $15 worth of Clorox/Kimberly Clark items.  You can do these multiple times.  There aren't too many coupons available for this, but it is still a pretty good deal for some cleaning items if you need them.  The participating items are:
Scott Paper Towels @ $5.99
Kleenex Facial Tissue @ $1
Clorox cleaning items @ $2.50 ($1 coupon for 409 Natural stone cleaner here)
Clorox cleaning items @ $2.99
Clorox bleach @ $1.69
Viva Paper Towels (single roll) @ $1.99 (printables available here)

Gorton's value pack fish sticks and fillets are on sale 25% off (prices ranging from $3.89-$8.24)  Use the $0.75 off 2 printable here and it will double to $1.50 off.

Healthy Ones sliced lunchmeat packages are priced at $2.50 each.  Register here for a $0.55 cents off 1 coupon that will double to $1.10 off, making these $1.40.

Large boxes (16-22 oz.) of Jose Ole taquitos and snacks are $5 each.  There are $1 off coupons available here making these $4 each.  It seems like you can print quite a few.

Coffeemate flavored creamer (16 oz.) is on sale for $2.  There is a $1 printable here, making these only $1.

Multigrain Cheerios are on sale for $2 each.  There is a $1 off 2 Cheerios coupon available here, making these $1.50 each when you buy two.

Newspaper coupon deals:

Dannon Danactive or Activia yogurt is on sale for $2.  There are coupons for $1 off 1 in recent inserts, making these $1 each.

Dole fruit jars are on sale for $2.50.  There is a $0.75 cents off one coupon in the May All You magazine that will double to $1.50 off, making this $1.

Eggo Waffles (16 ct.) are $3.  There is a $0.75 off 1 coupon from a recent insert that will double to $1.50 off, making these $1.50.

See anything I missed or have any questions?  Please leave it in the comments!

Hello readers!  I have had an extra busy weekend, and it is already late Sunday night and I'm just getting around to clipping my coupons.  So for this week, I'm going to pass on scouring through the Acme circular and pass on a link to the Acme deals post over at Moms Need to Know.

This is random, but I felt like blogging about it, I guess because what is the point of having a blog if you can't divulge some silly little things from time to time?

So anyway, Saturday night I "let" my husband go out to a friend's house for a poker game, while I stayed in with the sleeping baby.  I wasn't doing anything particularly exciting, I know it involved my usual routine of sitting on the couch with the laptop and my phone nearby.

Now, you might be aware that I am a raging geek.  I am counting down the days to the new Star Trek movie (even though, as a die-hard fan, I have some "concerns" about it not following canon...ok that was embarassing to even admit here) and I would almost always prefer to be talking to someone online rather than face-to-face.  I think I've mentioned before that during my impressionable teen years I wanted to be like Sandra Bullock in "The Net."

Well....imagine my dismay when I received a text message from the future.  The number the text came from was really long--definitely not a real number that I would even try to call back.  There was no actual message, the text was blank.  The kicker was the date stamp on the message, September 5, 2021.  I get a bunch of annoying telemarketer calls on my cellphone, which I can usually confirm are 'junk' calls by quickly googling the number.  I googled this loooong weird number and the only search result I got, yes the ONLY one, was an equation for the speed of light.

Speed of light.  You can't make this stuff up!  I instantly started getting freaked out and I called Marc to confirm that he was not just trying to scare me while I was at home by myself.  I called my brother, who thought it seemed like a good omen that I am still alive in 2021.  Um, I better still be alive in 2021, Rayna will only be 13!  Oh and I'll only be 39.  So then I imagined myself, still a geek, in 2021 sending a text message to herself in the past just to be funny.  And I thought "get a life future Bay!!" :)

So I'm curious to see if anyone else has had a similar type message.  I have since received another blank message from this same date, from a different very long number (this one apparently means nothing).  Those logical minded people I know tell me that this seems like some sort of viral marketing, spam or other general solicitation.  I called AT&T and they gave me the national do-not-solicit number (which is 888-382-1222, if you're interested).  But I'm curious to hear your theories, especially if they are colorful.  One of my girlfriend's told me that maybe the island wants me back.  I love it!

If you aren't caught up on Lost, don't keep reading or you will be spoiled!

Is my post title pretty clever or what?  I always remembered the name of that first season episode, because it really made us aware that most all of our Losties have serious 'daddy issues'.  And the ubiquitous 316 in this episode?  I just have to point out that it always reminds me of John 3:16, perhaps one of the most recognizable scriptures, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" which is clearly about a father/son sacrifice.  Now I know that is not new information, but I just get a kick out of seeing the same themes pop up.  I especially love biblical themes, since I really think that something both supernatural and spiritual is going on at Lost island.

Another thing I get a kick out of seeing?  As you know, "dead losties".  It was cool to see Naomi again.  The "audition" scene was a bit creepy.  I hated how you could never get a good look at the dead guy's face.  At first he looked like he could be Richard Alpert (but he wasn't, I could tell that much) then I was wondering if he was "Bram" the guy we later see threatening Miles in the van & also saw last week on the shore of Hydra island with Ilana...But I guess that wouldn't really make sense.

When Jack was wiping the chalkboard at the school, I was able to catch a couple of quick glimpses of "Egyptian", "2000 BC", "phonetics(?)" and there were some little hieroglyphic symbols.  Pretty ironic that the Dharma kids are learning their Egyptian history.

"Do you know what lies in the shadow of the statue?"  That is starting to drive me nuts!  I need to know what it means!

Poor Phil.  He seemed like a decent guy coming straight to Sawyer to get clocked in the head.

Personally, this episode was a bit of a downer for me, after last week's great Locke/Ben showdown.  It was nice to finally get some Miles backstory, but this episode was so slow for me.  I don't really care about the building of the hatch, I don't really care about the secret Dharma conspiracy (which was the crazy electromagneticism pulling the man's filling straight through his head, like a bullet...my husband had to explain to me), Hurley writing "The Empire Strikes Back" etc.  The best part of the night for me was seeing Daniel Faraday for the last couple of seconds.  Can't wait to have him back! (and how'd he get off the island in the first place?)

But I guess my line of the night is a silly one- After Hurley promises to keep quiet about the dead body Pierre says,  "Well you better....(looks at Hugo's jumper) Hurley!!"  For some reason Pierre Chang's voice cracks me up.  He always seems so angry, it was touching to see him reading to the little Dharma-onesie wearing Miles.  I can't imagine how that must have felt for Miles to see after decades of hating his father.

Anywho, I guess this episode was good for breaking me into the fact that next week is a clip show.  Here's to a great episode in a couple of weeks.  Please leave me your thoughts (or a link to them) as I love to hear them :)

This goes without saying, but if you aren't caught up with Lost, please don't read on or you will be spoiled!

Well.  I thought tonight's episode was so fabulous, it is tied for me with "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" for best of season 5.  I don't feel like I have a ton of points, but I had chills watching this episode and watching it alone I was pretty creeped out at first! ;)

-Locke already knew that Ben "killed" Alex.  Locke's creepy-calm demeanor tells us that he knows more than he is letting on, but he flat out says to Ben that he doesn't think Ben wants to be judged for leaving the island, but for killing his daughter.  Locke definitely has some supernatural knowledge to just know information like that.

-Whidmore was pretty awful for callously wanting to kill baby Alex.  Of course he doesn't do it himself, but hoping that Ben would do it is just wrong.  Apparently, Whidmore knows something that Ben doesn't about who should and shouldn't be dead, and that interfering with it is pointless, but really?  I still think that Whidmore is a "good" guy, but after seeing this, I give some points to Ben and take some away from Charles.

-Cesar!!  YES!  Again, I don't really approve of senseless killing, but I was happy to see him go.  But how creepy was Ben's duplicitous friendship with Cesar just to quickly turn on him.  Ben really knows how to get information out of people and FAST.

-Lapidus!  Really?  You are just going to leave Sun alone with these kooks?  I am a bit disappointed in you (but I still do have a crush on you, haha).  And look what you get when you go back to the Hydra island, a knock on the head.

-It really is a huge power shift to see Ben so clueless about the island goings-on when Sun show's Ben the 1977 photo.  When she asks him if he knew about this, Ben sincerely seems like he has no clue.  Then to fail to summon Smokey, but Locke knows how to get to him?!  Ben was humbled in this ep. for sure.

-I'm sure they are saving the temple for the finale or something really grand like that, but the underneath alone is pretty dang creepy!  I love all the Egyptian stuff and hieroglyphics that we've seen on the island so far and seeing Anubis (the dog head man) with what looks to be a hieroglyphic of the smoke monster was pretty cool!

-The smoke monster showed Eko his life and then saw fit to kill him.  Why let Ben live?  (Other than good tv ratings?)  It was pretty creepy to see Alex, I think she was just the monster manifesting itself in human form to reach Ben.  After all, Ben said it himself, "dead is dead."

-But the best part of the night???  Knowing that sweet Penny is alive.  I couldn't help but feel a bit touched (in a weird way) that Ben couldn't do it when he saw little Charlie.  Ben knows all too well how losing your mom can affect your life.  And WTG Desmond!  I loved it!

Going back to the boring losties in 1977 will seem like a snoozefest next week, but it looks like we'll finally get a good Miles episode and see Pierre Chang/Mark Wickman/Marvin Candle.  He's one of the ones I love to see ;)

Let me know your thoughts in the comments (or a link to your thoughts!) and while you are here, why not enter my new giveaway?

At the very end of my pregnancy with Rayna, I went to the ob-gyn to get the usual non-stress tests and the like. Before the tech got started with me, she asked if I had used any cocoa butter on my belly that day. I told her that I hadn’t, and she said that was good because caffeine from the cocoa butter could enter my bloodstream and give the baby an erratic heartbeat, thus causing mixed test results. I went home and tried researching this and I didn’t find anything to indicate that it was true, but it did get me thinking.

When I was pregnant I went through great lengths to stay away from paint fumes, lunch meat (the hardest for me, since I craved Italian hoagies every day, lol), possibly unpasteurized cheeses, etc, but I never really gave too much thought to what items I was slathering on my body multiple times a day. Belli Skincare is the #1 recommended pregnancy skincare brand by OB-GYNS and is the only skin care line in the world that is teratology screened. That means that every product and ingredient is safe, even for pregnant mommies. I wish I had heard of Belli when I was pregnant, because I definitely would have confidently used their products (and possibly even saved myself a few stretch marks in the process).

Well when Belli Skincare asked if I would review their products I was pretty excited. You know all about my frugality and I have to say that I don’t buy cool stuff for me very often. They hooked me up with some awesome products and I’m going to go over a few of my favorites here. They also are so generous to give a special discount to my readers and one lucky reader will win a Motherhood Essentials Kit (valued at $38.99)! Keep reading to get all the details.

The Motherhood Essentials Kit contains:

-Pure Comfort Nursing Cream- Now, I am not currently nursing, but I do have SUPER dry skin, so I used this thick lanolin balm to moisturize really dry spots (like elbows and knees).
-Eye Brightening Cream- This one really was awesome. It revives puffy and tired eyes and must contain some type of light-reflecting property, because instantly my dark circles looked much improved. Not that I'm traveling anywhere these days, but I think this would be great to perk your face up after those long, dry flights.
-Body Firming Serum- I don’t know if there is a product under the sun that could firm my stretch-marked stomach. My husband was VERY concerned that I was going to post before and after pictures…seriously! What could he really have been thinking?! Anyway, I have tried all of the stuff I could think to try, like Bio-oil, PreferOn, etc. and nothing has helped. I can honestly say that I have seen some improvement in my saggy belly skin since using this product. Now according to the Belli website, you can use this product all over as “a multi-vitamin for your skin”, but so far I have exclusively used it on my stomach. You won’t see any after pictures, but you can take my word for it.
-Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer- Pretty straight-forward. Moms are constantly sanitizing their hands and those Purell-types leave skin pretty dry. This hand sanitizer actually leaves them softer than they were before. The size that comes in this kit is perfect for the diaper bag.

I got to try a few other products, including the Belli Baby Bundle of Joy Gift Set which left Rayna soft and smelling faintly like honey. Yummy! ;) But my favorite product was the Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator. Honestly, this was the first thing I tried because I love anything that smells minty. I used this exfoliator before I applied the Body Firming Serum, so that everything would absorb the way it should. I like that the consistency of the “scrubbers” is like a fine sand (instead of those ones that feel like broken shells, you know which ones I mean!) and doesn’t hurt or irritate you in the process. So combine the refreshingly minty smell and that it gently sloughs away dead skin cells and you have my new favorite scrub.

I think that Belli Skincare really fits the need for products that you can feel good about using and giving to others, knowing that they are both safe and effective. But I’m sure you’ve heard enough of my thoughts on them and are ready to try some out yourself or give to a loved one. Check out the Belli Skincare website here and shop around. When you place an order, you will receive a 20% discount for being a reader of mine. Just enter the code OTHERHOOD at checkout.

PS- The folks from Belli found my blog through my friends at Otherhood, a social event company for moms in South Jersey. -- If you are in this area and are looking to get out of the house (with and without your little one!) check out their website here for their awesome events. I have been to a few of them and they’re fun and worthwhile. You can also check out (and subscribe/follow) their blog.

Also ready to enter the giveaway? To enter: Visit Belli Skincare and then come back here and post a comment telling me which product you’d most like to try. Be sure to include your email address so I can get a hold of you if you win! If you are worried about spammers, type your email address something like this: queenmotherblog(at)gmail{dot}com and you're good! This giveaway is open to residents of the US only.

Deals are very slim this week.  But that doesn't mean that good coupons aren't out there.  Since it is the beginning of the month, be sure to print all of the good internet coupons while they last.  Did you know that now you can print coupons.com coupons right from here?  Check out the coupons.com bar on the right, where it says "Print Coupons From Here!"

First, if you are new to working deals at Acme, please read the background info on this post. This will explain how the coupons double & how to print two copies of the printable coupons.

Here is what I see this week:

There are a couple random promotions:

-On page 6 of this week's circular are two coupons (however, you can use only one) for either a free box of Yehuda matzos or a $3.99 box of Manischewitz matsos when you make a purchase of $75.  Also, if you spend $25 or more in Manischewitz brand items in one transaction, you will receive a $5 coupon at checkout good for your next shopping trip.

-On page 8 of this week's circular are 16 different coupons that can be used to get $2 off a carton (12 or 18 pack) of eggs.  If you are buying any of these items (such as Kraft mayonnaise for $2.99 or Betty Crocker Warm Delights 2 for $5) clip one of these coupons and $2 will come off your egg purchase.

-On the last page of the circular this week, there are quite a few participating Kraft products--purchase $20 of them and you are eligible to use the $5 off any Lancaster brand rib eye roast or ham.

This week I just see one good deal opportunity using Acme's printless "avenu" coupons, but just be sure to check your offers before you go to shop at your store.  Never used avenu before?  It is very easy.  Go here and enter your Supercard number from your card or one of your receipts.  You will then see some "customized" offers for you and then a list of electronic coupons.  Once you have activated these electronic coupons, all you have to do is purchase the items required for the specific offer that you would like to take advantage of, and the "coupon" will come right off of your total at checkout.  The best thing about these deals is that they CAN be combined with manufacturer coupons!

These offers may vary by region, but I was able to find the following possible good deal using avenu:

Avenu coupon:  Save $1.20 on any 6 Gerber 1st or 2nd Foods. Gerber 2nd foods are on sale for $1 each this week, and I have tons of Catalina (register) coupons available. If you have any of these Catalinas, or any other Gerber baby foods coupons, you might be able to get these down to a really great price.

Non-coupon deals:

California Fresh Strawberries are on sale buy one get one free at $3.99, making these $2 each.

Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sierra Mist or Mountain Dew 12 pack cans or 6 pack bottles are on sale 4 for $11 (must buy four) using the coupon on the first page of the circular.

Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice (cartons and 6 packs) are all on sale for $2.50 each.

Red Star yeast 3-packs are on sale for $1 this week.

Printable coupon deals:

Wholly Guacamole 7-12 oz. packages are on sale buy one get one free at $2.99.  There are $1 printables available here.  Use two of the coupons and you will get 2 packages for $0.99 - that is only 50 cents each!

Yoplait yogurt individual cups are buy 10 at $10, get 10 free.  There are $1 off 8 cups coupons available here.  Pick up 20 cups, use two of the coupons (you could use 3 if you had access to another printer; you are only able to print 2 of the same coupon per computer) and you will pay only $8 for 20 cups - that is only 40 cents each!

Wonka and Sweetart jelly beans are on sale for $1.66 each.  There is a $1 off two coupon here, making these $1.16 each for two.

Newspaper coupon deals:

zzz?!  I can't find any good newspaper coupon matchups this week.  And there were TONS of coupons in today's paper.  Oh well, hold on to those Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Green Giant coupons.  I'm sure there is some type of cool Catalina deal coming up soon!

See anything I've missed, or have any questions?  Please leave it in the comments!

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

I have to make tonight's recap a quick one, so I'll dive in with my 'thoughts' :)

-Jack not helping Ben! What is his deal? He's a child, and Miles has it so right on, this has already happened. I knew that Sayid wasn't really "altering" anything. He was just creating the Ben he hates so much.
-Kate is such an awful mom (aside from her usual "hey baby, drink your milk." "c'mon baby, color your book" lol). I just can't get over her lame turnover of Aaron. It was just all so selfish to me, I was hoping for something much better. So Sawyer breaking Kate's heart allows Kate to steal a child for a few years, use him as an emotional crutch and then abandon him? Ugh, it just further cements my dislike for her character.
-Crazy chick that found Aaron in the grocery store. Why were they playing creepy music? We don't know her from anywhere do we? She was a bit of a Claire look-alike.
-I felt sorry for Ben's dad in this episode. I know he's a "bad" guy, but he does seem like he tries in his way. And he's Uncle Rico ;)
-I love when we see Richard Alpert! The mystery surrounding his character is fascinating to me and I loved the mention of Charles and Ellie. So right now they are in charge? And Ben losing his 'innocence'? What does that mean? He brought him into that "temple" that the smoke monster dragged Danielle's people into. And look how twisted and scary they came out afterwards...Creepy!

Ok, so I guess this episode raises a lot of questions, but at least we're moving forward with the whole island story and not just this relationship quadrangle business. Can't wait for the smoke monster next week!
